Dr. Sanjeev Datar is a critical care specialist who cares for children in the intensive care units, including cardiac intensive care.  Dr. Datar's research, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health, is focused on better understanding how the lymphatic vasculature works in health and disease. Specifically, he is studying new ways to support and improve lymphatic function in the lungs of patients with congenital heart disease.

Datar earned his medical degree at the University of Washington and a doctorate in molecular and cellular biology in UW's joint program with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at UCSF, joining the faculty in 2008.

Dr. Datar has received a variety of honors, including the 2007 Charlotte Rose Coleman – Fry Award for pediatric critical care fellows, an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012 from the UCSF Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators, a Beginning Grant-in-Aid Award in 2012 from the American Heart Association and most recently the Ida M. Cannon for integrity from the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care.  He is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research, Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute and Lymphatic Education & Research Network.
